Despite the various rumours and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us. There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin Freeman. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave—exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit.

By now pretty much everybody knows that today — January 28, 2012 — is my beloved Elijah Jordan Wood’s 31st birthday. So we’re going to celebrate on my blog by posting a picture from (nearly) every year of Elijah’s life, plus a few pictures I have from some of his actual birthdays. Yay!
A very, very happy birthday to the kindest, handsomest, most wonderful man in the world! (I’m imagining he’s making a birthday wish in this picture, getting ready to blow out some candles.)
